Both loose. You liked him before. So he's. 12:40 AM nine B 87 FM. Music from 1975. The theme this week on the drive this one is Philadelphia freedom. But Elton John's in my opinion. One of his two or three best song. Gregor Thomas Baldwin joins us and we have wanted to get some movie discussion on the show for a while now. We talked music we talked restaurants we talk business. Movies have been a little bit of a void both Jeff and I love movies especially considering neither one of those is seen one in about a year. But that's why you're here. What has gone on to they still have a soft movie sees that the war on theater does that still get it are sort of goes. War and I'll know Lou the war and over an old town has but they serve and drinks and they don't like the reclining seats on. Let's we have been worn quite outside that was meant to say I haven't been to a movie in a while and on and you're gonna you're going to inspire me to go not tell our listeners what qualifies you. Besides this unbelievable name you have Patrick Gregory Thomas bald eagle by that is that publicly your name and we start to go by that more. I added I used to hate it when I was a kid and now it's it's a fantastic talking point as and is now is Greg is what we usually go by. As a my friends only as votes. But it's actually Gregor there's a little little spell that for us it's GR IO GH ER it's Celtic is that a family. Name. I'm very Irish. And so all of my siblings have very Irish names and amusingly considering wanted to do today means watchful so not so figure. You are native which is time is that correct transplanted. It. By the way is taxes and then I lived in Manhattan firm my my developing years and my wife is a teacher and got and got a job down here about ten years ago teaching its garden plain. And so actually what's funny about that. Is I didn't wanna move to Wichita initially and she. She drug me down as we have family here. And she was like just go to the movies theaters I think I can documentary about go into the theaters. And so should she gave me a free days gave me some money to run off to the or not to theaters and the first summer saw the war and I was just like I was just amazed with the thirties art Deco and become a throwback to if you see in the majestic remember that film winds and turn and that era and I was like OK I'm outta which stuck it. No Wichita has always been kind of a movie town in my opinion and certainly the war on theaters of enhance sap but even back in the day and I I don't know how much you've heard about this but when you have the crest theatre and some other boulevard theater in the and and some other really great old movie theaters. Wichita laws have kind of a movie thing going on so I think you're in the right place tell us why you believe. That you can beat this shows. Movie critic. We'll talk to your movie you movie theaters on an awful lot of people know the world upon me. Wal-Mart is currently at upon it Broadway that used to be a drive and called upon he drives and and Wichita I don't want to harm had he had. And the most drive events per capita. Mike I guess six state area. I'm obviously don't have the one left it's. But he gathered and it's fueled strong and that's where you worked and did then there's nothing like go onto a drive and lose I'll I'll tell you as far as Richardson's are willing to support and it'll it'll reopen a lot of people have fear about a for awhile but it's in the previous owner grown from 1998 until. Last year when he passed away. Set it up so that whoever took it over it would be. Fiscal we. Supportive of a family. And so the new owner chuck. He is he's sends arms which is told supporters will keep your keep ago. So if you if you are sold on moving to Wichita just buy a movie theater you must have been into movies for a long time before their lowest cut of the movie. They you remember where it kind of struck here your love of cinema so to speak. And I'll tell you as kids. My grandmother provided to my mom also provided. Let me play me VHS tapes but they got a bunch of them. The one resonates with me the most is and I'm sure you'll remember this one but the never ending story and it. Fell coroner had Elliott the whole thing I'm. That when is the one that resonates. And and everybody from my generation's. Do 34. We all remember them. Atrix and just Saigon I think Tommy Boy ethnic and I think that's where you two different at that you say you all remember the matrix that would not be Jeffs kind of movie Tommy Boy would be is kind of moved. How heroic and you're more of a matrix yet. I like Alex opened let's go to twister. Brand a little bit. I'm trying to think of the name of her right now. There's a really. Low budget film that was done and of course my my brains pickup thing. Part of my brain twists enough I go to movies to turn off jet refers to lose it's often soften your burning back that's not the ones that was some. So what's Jeff what's on currently that you're curious about all of them I was gonna ask you about a few movies that I earned coming out this summer but what do you think his Captain America will that carry this summer. When you look back on the summer of Tony sixteen always say that was the movie of the summer of Tony sixteen hours or so is there one still to come I think you will do it. And the reason I say that is it's everybody sees it as a superhero movie but it's so much more than that it's it's actually more of and an international thriller. Along the lines. Say Jack Ryan or Jayson born. But you still. Have the comic book heroes that we're so used to seeing and running through. And it's it's both I believe is its wealth moral film. And they built such a rich universe. Is so difficult to. To compete with that and the other. The superhero movies because like for example X and apocalypse that came out. When in the first action movie came out and I believe was 2001. We were all amazed some and we are Wolverine we're storm in and Patrick Stewart is professor X. And we're all like wow this sets the bar and inspired mansion we all enjoy that another marvel has actually found their footing and really. Really started developing universal they've got. Fox and Paramount and all the people that are all the other titles like he likes the train wreck that was fantastic four last year. And they just can't compete with marble and not to mention. Do you see in the Batman vs Superman tonight ABC Allen. Did not now we're military that I haven't walked in a theater in the it's I need to get out CNN I want to buy like Matt man oh did you learn how solid but not I did America as the movie if you're gonna see one of those maybe I'll go see Captain America should. Sea Captain America you can go watch that or not know who the characters are and still watch an intriguing film. Then it's and it has its. Multiple layers you gut you know superiors beating up on people but you've also got a plot line that we use in and out. Somebody else is pulling the strings on on what's happening. And I had a broken down a satin and I've I've seen that movie probably 567 times is being exposed to the program and every time I don't watch it. Actually something new and there's. So Scarlett Johansson in the slump absolutely okay now yes. Debt Sanchez she's fantastic as always. Gregor Thomas ball a ruthless. Talking about movies 8691240. If you have a question. But he'll be with us every couple weeks or so as we. Go through the summer. And it you sit and talk about these summer movies and the Walking Dead and everything that that I wasn't privy to I've never read comic books. One of I missed out on. What why should a kid read comic books because they are obviously sparking the imaginations of a lot of creative people out there. Bestsellers you asked that because as a kid I collect comic books and got away prone because you know you're supposed glory childish things as a recoverable. And now. As an adult watching his movies come out I'm watching. I'm watching what my imagination was. In the nineties kids Sonoma front porch with a para comic books. Now like everybody else you're seeing these characters come to life you're seeing. What you frankly thought was impossible. I'll be honest with you what I'm really curious about. 1015 years on the line is whether or not the seed giant holds about how bad is again a look to us you know the same when we go back in the middle assumes no op. That was terrible speaking of the matrix and I and I'm gonna get hate mail from this one bird. The matrix doesn't hold up. As far as that CGI got the story is still there but it my wife remembers seeing the whole trilogy so recent I don't rosters and I just remember thinking oh. But at the time and we saw it it was the most amazing thing we've seen on how much or little stories told. Up then in ten to fifteen years because if it did the matrix is still carrying a story ten to fifteen years later these movies seem to rely more heavily. On the on the effects so the story hold up. Well. I knew something like Superman. And Batman are always gonna hold aren't even go back as far as animal last in the sixties and you can watch that movie. And it's kind of snapshot of the there's a snapshot of the of the culture so much as it is in just a movie as well you watch it and vice. And the old Adam west's camp. The UN gets broken into by all the super bones and a turn to dust and impairments cutter Sorrell. And now and now a Captain America for example. You have a plot why and where it's it's overreaching government intervention and freedoms vs security and universal kind of started exactly all the subtext that. I mean you can watch it and each popcorn and enjoy it or you can think about how it applies to. In current culture and you can draw some comparisons that. Our army uses how do you do you wanna go there's. And ready for a phone call sure I don't know peers said he has something head. I. Guerrero walked aboard. Pretty knowledge reform prostrate also my idol like I don't want us commit at least not bite I like a lot of mainstream movies. But also matched BR cup appears that a closed down. Opt out. They showed a lot of independent movies that we can't Cheney world now there's also the old sort impostor. So old Tyler or your company. Forum. They're did you want to open up sort of play or concede some abuse. Or what commercial structures all our hang up almost. Banks said. You know it and I have the same problem. My lived in Lawrence for couple years and they have liberty hall of there and that was the first place us aren't Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Before it ever became mainstream before it was something. The people got answers. That's what I wish that Wichita had a five at one. One desire for better theaters whose. There's there's a movie coming out and I don't know whether or not we're gonna get a chance to suit you're wished. You should look this up but no it's it's possibly appropriates. Be aware that it's gonna sit for work but it's called Swiss army man. If you go watch the trailer. And if you can offends delighted sensibilities but. Looks like a fantastic movie with us Daniel Radcliffe on pole day no. And the two of those made this beautifully weird little thing and I suspect it's not gonna get it. The kind of playing Wichita better than we get in sale later New York. I was even joking and I would put our minds. My website earlier today of their final drive as far as Kansas City or. Oklahoma City your may be easier than any doubts to see that because it just looks so. What's your subsite. It's Greer dot net GR Ohio. Dot NET two very short very simple very easily get to.
